Comments by Ana Pardo Our space. This picture is part of a series (‘Ages of Art’) whose main idea is the development of the idea of man as an artificial being. My starting point is man as creator of artificial spaces within which the human spirit develops ; these are ARTISTIC SPACES (which in turn generate new spaces); in my opinion these have been as important as natural spaces. So Art can be considered as an ‘anti-natural’ space which gives humans a supernatural power, a power which has shown human beings certain ‘essences’ which exist potentially in nature, such as greatness, beauty, nobility, justice, etc.. Goethe developed the theme of the precariousness of nature as a space for general human development, art gives us this ‘extra something’. This picture shows the structure of an imaginary cathedral which includes some of the indispensable icons of the Western artistic world. The relationships which are formed between them suggest that Art comes from Art : All this is combined with potentially constructive elements which form the spiritual world of the figure representing humanity in the foreground. |
