"My life: the story of a wave" Oil on canvas - 81 x 60 cm

Comments by Ana Pardo

This picture was originally titled “My life”. I found that its development and colouring were praised by much of the public but in some cases the theme was criticised as “candid and sugary-sweet” ,a suggestion caused by the title. I understood that the entire conceptual lyric contained in the work faded away when the main centre of interest was identified with myself. Nothing further from the truth. “my life” is general in its treatment, it is not my life but the life of anybody whose life is synthetised by waves.

One of the defining qualities of humanity is our capacity to dream or desire; beyond our intelligence this captivates our mind in such a pleasant way that it leads us to grasp hope as the instrument which guards our desires. In the picture, the dreamlike scenery surrounding the figure represents this side of human nature, our dreams and invisible impulses which shape character and channel behaviour, and even though reality surrounds and besets us, even though reality marks the true limits of our illusions, like a wave, these illusions try to make their way in the immensity. This is the most beautiful work of Art made by Nature, to give life to a being who, while aware that his life and illusions will both eventually be lost in time, lives and works as if they were immortal.
